Before anything is welded or assembled, a fabrication has to get from steel sheet to formed parts. These are the first steps in our Birmingham workshop.
Step one: nest and cut
Parts are nested onto the sheet so as much of it as possible becomes useful blanks. The photo shows a nested programme on the fibre laser control before cutting starts.
The laser then profiles the blanks from the sheet, ready for the next operation.
Step two: form on the press brake
Flat blanks move to the press brake, where they are bent into the shapes the design calls for. Cutting and bending happen under the same roof, so blanks go straight from one machine to the next.
What comes next
Once the parts are cut and formed, they can go on to welding, hardware insertion and assembly - or leave as finished parts if the job is simply cut and folded.
